PRP Facial

Platelet-rich plasma, drawn from you and worked into the skin.

  • Acne scarring
  • Skin texture
  • Fine lines
  • Dullness
  • Loss of firmness

What is PRP Facial?

A small amount of your blood is taken and spun until the platelets separate. That concentrate is then worked into the skin, usually with microneedling, so the growth factors it carries reach the layer that produces collagen. The response builds over the following weeks.

Despite the name this is a medical procedure rather than a facial. There is a blood draw, the skin is deliberately injured in order to heal, and you leave red. It is a course treatment and it belongs in a plan, not in a diary slot before an evening out.

This improves texture and supports collagen. It will not remove deep scarring, will not lift, and will not clear pigment — and it is a course rather than a session, so a single appointment judged on its own will disappoint. It is also not suitable for everyone: because it starts with taking blood, several ordinary medical conditions and medicines rule it out.

Downtime

Sessions
A course, spaced across months
Results

Comfort

Who it is for

Is this the right treatment for you?

Acne scarring or uneven texture?

Texture is where this does its clearest work, and it is usually planned as a course.

Prefer your own biology to a product?

There is nothing in this but your own plasma, which is why many people start here.

Able to be red for a couple of days?

Plan for it. This is not a treatment to have the day before anything.

Uneasy about needles or blood?

Say so at consultation. There are gentler routes to better texture and you should be offered one.

When it is not appropriate

Pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection or inflamed skin in the treatment area, recent isotretinoin use, photosensitising medication, and a history of keloid scarring all need to be raised before anything is booked. Tell the practitioner about every medication and supplement you are taking. Blood disorders, clotting problems, blood-thinning medication, anaemia and active skin infection all need raising, because this begins with taking blood and with breaking the skin.

How it works

What happens in a session

01

Assess

The skin is assessed, the course planned and baseline photographs taken.

02

Draw and separate

A small sample of blood is taken and spun to separate the platelets.

03

Numb and treat

Topical numbing, then the plasma is worked into the skin.

04

Review

Progress is judged against the baseline rather than against memory.

Questions

PRP Facial, answered

Is this the "vampire facial"?

That is the nickname for it, and it does the name no favours. It is a medical procedure with a blood draw, and it should be described that way rather than as a luxury.

Does it hurt?

The draw is an ordinary blood test. The treatment itself is done under topical numbing and is usually described as uncomfortable rather than painful.

How many sessions?

A course, spaced across months, because collagen responds on its own timetable. Judge it at the end against the baseline photographs.

When will I see a difference?

Texture begins shifting across weeks, and the fuller result arrives over a course of months.

How long does it last?

Months after a completed course, because what you are left with is your own collagen. Maintenance is planned at review.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Frequently planned with laser work in sequence rather than together, so nothing is done on skin that is still recovering.
