Lifting Threads
PDO threads placed under the skin to reposition tissue and prompt collagen.
- Soft jawline
- Sagging cheeks
- Loose neck
- Mid-face descent
- Loss of definition
What is Lifting Threads?
Lifting threads are fine dissolvable sutures with small barbs along them. They are passed under the skin and used to draw tissue upward, and they hold that position while the body gradually dissolves them and lays down collagen along the track they took.
This is the most invasive thing in this family. There is real downtime, real bruising and a period where the face can feel tight or tethered when you move it. It lifts modestly. None of this is surgery and none of it substitutes for surgery. Where what you want is a surgical result, the honest answer is a surgeon, and you should be given that answer here rather than sold a course of something that cannot reach it.
The lift is modest. Threads reposition tissue; they do not remove it, and no number of them turns this into surgery. They also cannot be dissolved on demand the way filler can, so a result you dislike is waited out rather than undone. Where skin laxity is significant, threads have little to hold and the honest answer is that this will not do what you want.
- Time
- Allow up to two hours, including numbing
- Downtime
- Several days of swelling and bruising; tightness for longer
- Sessions
- Usually one, repeated after a year or more
- Results
- Immediate lift, then softening as swelling settles
- Comfort
- Pulling and pressure under local anaesthetic, then days of tightness
Is this the right treatment for you?
Jawline softening but skin still reasonably firm?
Threads work best where there is something to lift and the skin still has tone.
Wanting a surgical result without surgery?
This will disappoint you, and you should hear that before you book rather than after.
Able to take a week looking bruised?
Plan for it. This is not a lunchtime treatment however it is marketed elsewhere.
Had threads before?
Say when and what kind. Previous threads change what can be done and where.
When it is not appropriate
This is a medical procedure and it is carried out by a doctor. Pregnancy or breastfeeding, any bleeding or clotting disorder, blood-thinning medication, active infection or inflamed skin in the treatment area, a history of keloid scarring, and any autoimmune or neuromuscular condition all have to be raised before anything is booked. Bring a full list of your medicines and supplements, including the ones you would not think to mention. None of this is surgery and none of it substitutes for surgery. Where what you want is a surgical result, the honest answer is a surgeon, and you should be given that answer here rather than sold a course of something that cannot reach it. Significant skin laxity, very thin skin and previous facial surgery all change what is possible and may rule it out.
What happens in a session
Assess
Skin tone, laxity and whether threads are the right answer at all. Often they are not.
Consent
Risks, downtime and the realistic degree of lift, in writing, before anything is done.
Numb and place
Local anaesthetic, then the threads are passed and the tissue drawn into position.
Review
Checked within the week and again once swelling has gone.
Still deciding?
Consultation is free. You will be told plainly whether Lifting Threads is the right fit, and what to do instead if it is not.

Lifting Threads, answered
How much does it actually lift?
Modestly. It repositions tissue rather than removing it, and anyone describing it as equivalent to surgery is overselling it.
Can I feel them?
Some tightness and occasional tethering on movement is normal for the first weeks and settles as the threads dissolve.
What if I do not like it?
Unlike filler, this cannot be dissolved on demand. That is the main reason the consultation is careful and the main reason to be sure.
When will I see a difference?
Immediately, but it looks its most dramatic while swollen. The real result appears as swelling settles over a week or two.
How long does it last?
The threads dissolve within months; the collagen along their track is what holds, usually a year or more.
Can I combine it with other treatments?
Often planned with volume or skin work, in sequence rather than together, and never in the same fortnight as dental work.
