Fillers

Hyaluronic acid fillers for volume that has been lost rather than features that were never there.

  • Flattened cheeks
  • Deep folds
  • Thin lips
  • Hollow under-eyes
  • Soft chin or jaw

What is Fillers?

Hyaluronic acid is a substance the skin already makes. As a filler it is a gel placed under the skin in measured amounts to restore volume where the face has lost it, or to define an edge — a jawline, a chin, the border of a lip.

The useful version of this treatment is restoring what has gone, not adding what was never there. Faces that look obviously filled are usually faces that have had volume added where none was lost. A good consultation spends most of its time deciding where not to put anything.

Filler replaces volume. It does not tighten skin, it does not remove skin, and it cannot lift a face that has descended — using more of it to try is exactly how faces end up looking filled. It will not improve skin quality or texture either; that is a different treatment. And it is not a solution to a face you dislike for reasons that have nothing to do with volume, which is something a careful consultation will say out loud.

Who it is for

Is this the right treatment for you?

Face looking flatter or more tired than it used to?

Volume loss is gradual and usually shows first in the midface. That is what this addresses.

Want a specific feature changed?

Bring a clear description rather than a photograph of someone else. What suits your face is decided from your face.

Had filler before?

Say what, where and when. Filler does not always behave as expected on top of older filler, and the doctor needs to know what is already in there.

Hoping for a dramatic change?

Then you may be in the wrong room, and you should be told that rather than gradually filled over several appointments.

When it is not appropriate

This is a medical procedure and it is carried out by a doctor. Pregnancy or breastfeeding, any bleeding or clotting disorder, blood-thinning medication, active infection or inflamed skin in the treatment area, a history of keloid scarring, and any autoimmune or neuromuscular condition all have to be raised before anything is booked. Bring a full list of your medicines and supplements, including the ones you would not think to mention. None of this is surgery and none of it substitutes for surgery. Where what you want is a surgical result, the honest answer is a surgeon, and you should be given that answer here rather than sold a course of something that cannot reach it. Tell the doctor about any previous filler, permanent filler or thread anywhere in the face, and about recent dental work.

How it works

What happens in a session

01

Assess

The face is assessed as a whole — where volume has gone, not only where you have noticed it.

02

Agree and consent

What will be placed, where and how much, along with the risks, in writing.

03

Numb and treat

Topical numbing, then placement with a needle or a blunt cannula depending on the area.

04

Review

Assessed once swelling has settled, usually at two weeks.

Questions

Fillers, answered

Can it be undone?

Hyaluronic acid filler can be dissolved with an enzyme, which is a large part of why it is the material used. It is one of the few treatments here that is genuinely reversible.

Will people be able to tell?

Done conservatively, people tend to notice that you look rested rather than that you have had something done. Done heavily, they notice. The difference is restraint at the consultation.

Is it safe?

It is a medical procedure with real risks, the serious ones rare but not theoretical. They are explained in full before you consent, and that conversation is not a formality.

When will I see a difference?

Immediately, but what you see on the day is substantially swelling. The real result is at two weeks and that is when it should be judged.

How long does it last?

Months to a couple of years depending on product and area. Mobile areas such as lips break it down faster.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Commonly combined, and commonly over-combined. The plan is built around doing less rather than more.
