Carbon Laser

A laser peel using a carbon layer to clear the surface and refine pores.

  • Enlarged pores
  • Oily skin
  • Acne-prone skin
  • Dullness
  • Rough texture

What is Carbon Laser?

A fine layer of carbon is spread across the skin and settles into the pores. A laser is then passed over it, and the energy the carbon absorbs lifts it away along with the oil, dead cells and debris it has bound to. The pass also carries a mild heating effect into the skin.

It is a surface treatment and a very good one, but it is a surface treatment. Pores look refined rather than closed, brightness is real but temporary, and deeper pigment needs a different laser. It suits oily and congested skin particularly well and is frequently booked as a course rather than once.

This clears the surface and refines how pores look. It does not close pores — nothing does — and it does not reach pigment at depth, so melasma and older dark spots need a different laser. It also does not treat the cause of oily skin; it manages what oily skin produces, which is why it is booked as a course rather than once.

Who it is for

Is this the right treatment for you?

Skin oily with visible pores?

This is the treatment that suits that skin best, and it is comfortable.

Breaking out regularly?

It is often part of an acne plan, alongside facials rather than instead of them.

Want brightness before an event with no recovery?

A few hours of mild redness is the extent of it. A day ahead is enough.

Here about melasma or deep dark spots?

That is a different laser. Ask about Pico instead rather than booking a course of this.

When it is not appropriate

Pregnancy or breastfeeding, active infection or inflamed skin in the treatment area, recent isotretinoin use, photosensitising medication, and a history of keloid scarring all need to be raised before anything is booked. Tell the practitioner about every medication and supplement you are taking. Recent sun exposure or a tan, photosensitising medication and active inflamed acne all change what can be done safely on the day.

Questions

Carbon Laser, answered

Will it get rid of my pores?

No. Nothing closes a pore permanently. It clears what is in them and the skin around them tightens a little, so they look smaller — and that is a real result described accurately.

Does it hurt?

It is usually described as a warm tingling with small snaps. It is one of the more comfortable laser treatments.

How often?

Usually a course spaced across weeks, then occasional maintenance. The schedule is set after your skin has been seen.

When will I see a difference?

The same day, in brightness and in how clean the skin feels. The pore effect builds across a course.

How long does it last?

Weeks, and held by repeating. Skin keeps producing oil, which is the whole reason for maintenance.

Can I combine it with other treatments?

Commonly run with facials, and sequenced carefully with any deeper laser work rather than stacked beside it.
